Mahogany Cake

Ingredients

- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups cake flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup milk
Recipe
- 1 cook cocoa and 1/2 cup milk together until smooth and thick; cool and set aside.
- 2 cream shortening and add sugar slowly, beating well.
- 3 add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- 4 add vanilla.
- 5 sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with 3/4 cup milk to creamed mixture.
- 6 add chocolate mixture and mix well.
- 7 bake in two greased 9 inch pans at 350* for about 20 minutes.
- 8 frost and fill as desired.
