Mahogany Cake

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup milk

Recipe

  • 1 cook cocoa and 1/2 cup milk together until smooth and thick; cool and set aside.
  • 2 cream shortening and add sugar slowly, beating well.
  • 3 add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • 4 add vanilla.
  • 5 sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with 3/4 cup milk to creamed mixture.
  • 6 add chocolate mixture and mix well.
  • 7 bake in two greased 9 inch pans at 350* for about 20 minutes.
  • 8 frost and fill as desired.
