Fresh Strawberry Cake

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 1 3/4 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, crushed
- 1 (6 ounce) package strawberry gelatin
- 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/3 cups sweet milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
- 1 (16 ounce) box confectioners' sugar, sifted
- 1/8 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, crushed
Recipe
- 1 cream butter, shortening, and sugar until fluffy.
- 2 add strawberries and gelatin; beat well.
- 3 sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with milk.
- 4 add vanilla and beat well.
- 5 fold in egg whites.
- 6 turn into 3 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
- 7 bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
- 8 when cake is cool, blend the confectioner's sugar, softened butter, and strawberries.
- 9 beat thoroughly and spread between layers.
