French Toast Angel Food Cake

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 angel food cake (7 to 8 inches)
  • 6 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • whipped cream (optional) or creme fraiche (optional)
  • maple syrup (optional)
  • fresh strawberries, sliced (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 slice the angel food cake into 10 to 12, 1-inch thick wedges.
  • 2 in a shallow dish combine eggs, milk, sugar; and vanilla. soak wedges in egg mixture for 1 minute per side.
  • 3 in a nontick skillet or on a nonstick griddle melt butter over medium heat. cook 4 wedges at a time for 1 to 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  • 4 to serve, stand slices in cake formation. top with whipped cream or creme fraiche. drizzle with maple syrup and top with strawberries. or just serve them plain.

  • 2 cups crushed pretzels
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

  • 1 (12 ounce) frozen limeade concentrate, partially thawed
  • 1/2 gallon french vanilla ice cream, softened, but not melted

  • 1 set oven to 450°f.
  • 2 prepare a 10-inch springform pan.
  • 3 crush pretzels before measuring them, then press into the bottom of a springform pan.

  • 1 cream together sugar and butter; stir in egg; combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt; add to butter mixture; mix to form a soft dough; reserve a half cup dough to be used later for topping; refrigerate the remaining dough.

  • 1 (12 ounce) can diet cola
  • 1/2 cup reduced-fat peanut butter

  • 2 sift the flours three times onto parchment paper.

  • 1 preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.
  • 2 grease and flour an 8 x 8 inch square pan; you can also use an 8 or 9 inch round pan.

  • 6 ounces of unflavored knox gelatin
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 3/4 quart vanilla ice cream

  • 1 in a large bowl combine the jell-o, unflavored gelatin and the boiling water. whisk until dissolved.
  • 2 now you want to quickly add the ice cream until it is melted and combined.
  • 3 once mixed well, pour into a 9″ x 13″ pan. refrigerate overnight, cut into squares and serve. if you are doing this for a party, i suggest putting the cut pieces into cupcake liners.
  • 4 the ice cream will magically float to the top of the jello and you will have a creamy+jello concoction that looks like it took a lot of prep work. great for parties!

  • 1 (18 1/4 ounce) box cake mix, any flavor
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter

Recipe

  • 1 do not mix ingredients and follow the order of ingredients - otherwise it won't turn out.
  • 2 in a 9x13-inch baking:.
  • 3 add pie filling.
  • 4 add pineapple with juice.
  • 5 add cake mix - dry (do not follow the directions on the box to make cake) evenly across pan.
  • 6 add pecans evenly across pan.
  • 7 slice butter into about 1/8-inch pieces.
  • 8 layer butter pieces to cover dish.
  • 9 bake at 325°f for 45 minutes.
  • 10 check - if there are any dry cake mix spots - add little more butter to these spots only and bake an additional 10 - 15 minutes.

  • 2 cups sifted flour

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup marsala (sweet)
  • olive oil
  • powdered sugar

Recipe

  • 1 mix water, sugar, oil and bay leaf in heavy saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • 2 mix flour and semolina together and dump into boiling water all at once. remove from heat and begin stirring with wooden spoon until it forms a mass.
  • 3 return to lowest heat and cook 5 minutes stirring. remove from heat, discard bay leaf and add yolks one at a time beating vigorously after each addition.
  • 4 add marsala and beat dough until satiny. you can use a food processor to prepare this dough if you wish.
  • 5 grease a countertop or board with olive oil and pat down dough into a pancake. flatten dough and fold sides over on itself so there are 3 layers. flatten dough again and repeat folding 5 times more.
  • 6 take about 1/3 of dough and roll out to a thickness of your thumb and make each piece into a ring. make 3 or 4 at a time and slip them into boiling oil. when you turn them, prick them with a sharp knife or fork in a few places.
  • 7 drain on paper and serve warm, dusted with confectionery sugar.

  • 1 heat oven to 350 degrees. generously grease and flour a 10-inch-by-4-inch tube pan. in a large bowl, stir together 3 cups flour, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and salt. pour buttermilk into 2-cup glass measure or bowl. stir in baking soda and set aside; it will foam slightly.
  • 2 in a large bowl, using an electric mixer at medium speed, beat butter until creamy. gradually beat in sugar until light and fluffy. add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. beat in vanilla.

Dulce De Tomate - Tomato Jam

  • 4 1/2 kg tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 kg sugar, jam
  • 500 ml water

Recipe

  • 1 wash the tomatoes and bring a large pot of water to a boil. when the water is boiling, submerge the tomatoes for a few seconds to scald them and remove to a bowl of cold water to stop the tomaotes from cooking. peel them, cut in half and remove seeds.
  • 2 weigh the tomatoes. for every 3kg of tomato flesh, you'll need 1.5kg sugar and 500ml water.
  • 3 put the water and sugar in a pan on the stove top. stir over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved in the water, making a syrup. bring the syrup to a boil, add tomatoes, and cook for 15-20 minutes, lowering the heat to a simmer. be sure to watch the pot so that it doesn't boil over-it gets foamy! the foam can be skimmed off the top.
  • 4 after 20 minutes, turn the stove off and let the mixture sit for a few hours.
  • 5 after a few hours, re-heat, stirring continuously with a wooden spoon, taking care that it doesn't stick or burn. bring it to a boil, then lower the heat and let cook for 1-2 hours, stirring periodically. the timing is a bit vague but you want to get to the syrup to a jelly set or when the temperature stablises to 104 c (219 f).
  • 6 after this time, the tomatoes should have a shininess and transparent look.
  • 7 prepare your jam jars. there is a number of methods but i prefer to wash the jars, drain them well then place in the oven at 100c for 15 minutes place the lids in a pan and boil for 10 minutes.
  • 8 pour the hot jam into the hot jars (use a jam funnel it makes it so much easier). seal the jars immediately and then place in a pan with a cake rack at the bottom and pour over hot water to fully submerge the jars and simmer for 10 minutes (you don't want the jars to sit directly on the bottom of the pan you can also use an old tea towel).
  • 9 remove and cool. using this method i have not had a problem with jam spoiling.

  • 3 meanwhile, set the oven to 150c/300/gas mark 2 and line a 20cm/8 inch square tin or four 10cm/4 inch round tins with greaseproof paper.
  • 4 sift the flours with the spices on to a plate.
  • 5 cream the butter and sugar until very light, then alternately beat in the fruit, eggs and flour.

  • 7 sprinkle reserved brown sugar mixture over batter; fold into batter 5 or 6 times for a marbled effect.
  • 8 pour batter into prepared pan.
  • 9 bake 40 to 45 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.
  • 10 cool 10 minutes; invert on wire rack.
  • 11 remove pan; cool cake completely.
  • 12 sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
